an open letter to the assuming

"she wouldn't recognize a life trial if it hit her square in the face"

dear you,

you say, ".... your perfect life" like it's a bad thing.  not that i disagree. actually, i take it as a compliment because i consider this life to be close to perfect and i wouldn't change a thing or ever apologize for it. however, i know it has less to do with perfection and more to do with attitude.

to assume it's simply a matter of luck, "she got lucky," is not only ignorant, it's completely unfair.

consider for just a moment, if you will, that this perfect life is merely a bi-product of determination and a lot of hard work.  that blood, sweat and tears are shed just the same as trials are endured and that when faced with adversity, a choice is made to persevere and push onward rather than search for an easy target to point fingers at.

maybe it's possible that great fortune is earned rather than fallen upon.  maybe attitude really is everything and walking the walk provides greater results than talking the talk.  patience just might be a great virtue and integrity really will take us a long way.

laziness or complacency is not an option.  working for the results we desire is the only way.  staying the course and holding tight to those who we care to take along with us is what matters most.  worrying about our own and doing unto others is not only heard, it's understood and practiced diligently.

say what you mean and mean what you say.  passive aggressive behavior is grounds for dismissal.

respect to be respected.

taking commitment seriously is not only preached, it's a mastered skill.  being considerate of other people, their time and their feelings, is not only desired, it's mandatory.

remaining informed and aware so not to make assumptions.  striving for excellence is a habit.  standing up when knocked down is not optional.

we make our own luck and when our luck is shit, how we respond is what makes us who we are.

sincerely,

me

chris! you're supposed to be on my side! saying i got lucky is much like when you hear someone say "she's naturally thin or fit" as if to imply she doesn't have to think twice about it. IT doesn't just happen.

If you think you're lucky you should see how kick-ass my life is!

On the real though, never sweat the bitter.

There's lucky (raffle winners) and there's motivated (doers). Getting up at the crack of jack and running 10 miles in freezing temps and on an icy surface automatically qualifies you as the latter. Maybe you're lucky you don't want to be unhealthy and overweight and so you do something about it?
