sitz bath

gavin took two baths yesterday.

gavin loves to take baths and shower.  he's been known to stand in the shower, under the water all by himself and say things like "that's nice."

because of this strong passion for bathing, it is difficult for any member of our little family to cleanse without his desperate attempts to be included in that particular bath, shower or hose down.  as a result, he is very clean.

yesterday was no exception.  but let's back up a few days.

first, brooklyn has been having issues that i won't go into detail about as i attempt to spare her from embarrassment so lets just say i lost sleep for a few nights after i'd convinced myself she had become a victim of bladder cancer or something equally as harmful.

after a week on an antibiotic and without any signs of improvement, i took her to our wonderful pediatrician.  in short, he advised that she take a sitz bath for 15 minutes, every day for a week.  he feels confident that this will ease her discomfort and was quite certain she's not suffering from something life threatening as i'd been imagining.

now, i've never taken a sitz bath.  i don't even know if that is the correct spelling and i didn't have any idea how to draw a sitz bath for my daughter.  after a little research, i learned a sitz bath would have been very enjoyable after giving birth to a human.  why didn't someone tell me this?  i also learned that i needed to purchase some epsom salts and put three tablespoons in about six inches of warm water for her to sit in.

and so, yesterday, this is what i did.  she was all ready to go and then gavin came in, took one look around, realized what was happening and started panicking over having been excluded from all the fun.  brooklyn kindly invited him to join her and i figured what could it hurt?

so they splashed and played and blew bubbles in the water.

SCENE TWO:

did you know epsom salt is also used to relieve constipation?

did i mention the wonderful pediatrician had also advised that i push brooklyn's fluids, especially apple juice?

did you know apple juice relieves constipation?

earlier in the day, when she realized her cup was full of juice she was compelled to share with gav. we don't buy a lot of juice so when they do get it, it's a real treat.  he was grateful, it was "delicious."  {i'm sorry for all of those who have never heard him say "mmmm, delicious"}.

anyway, gavin must have drank a lot of bath water and a lot of apple juice.  do i need to explain how i determined this?  it was one of those how do i approach this? kind of experiences for me.  super gross.

hence, the reason for bath number two.

might i add that he is still the most perfect human being alive.  i feel like he's growing literally, before my eyes.  sniffle. sniff.  but, i think i'm over diaper explosions and i don't believe i can handle worrying about another child's possible bladder cancer.  sniffle.  sniff.

Oh c'mon! You can handle it. :)

I have never heard of a sitz bath either. Well, I have but I didn't know what they were! I'll have to remember that for the future.

Also, he is pretty cute! AND, I hope Brooklyn is all better.

That's too funny! Ya, liquids (i.e. water, juice), exercise, and yogurt are good things for relieving constipation. It's so cool that there are so many simple things to make our lives a little easier. Awesome.
hoped it all worked OUT for your little one!! I just love that little chubby naked boy pic!!
