chilling out
once my bare feet hit the tile floor outside of my bedroom this morning i was wide awake. utah weather is crazy and not everyone is a fan. this was easily noted on facebook yesterday as i read one complaint after another about the digits on the thermometer. one of my friends even wondered out loud on her blog what all of us utah moms do to keep the kids busy during the winter months (she lives in florida). i quickly responded that it sucks because it does.
i actually really like cold weather. of course there are some disadvantages like having to warm my coffee up several times every morning and bare feet on the tile floor. i worry about the kids level of coziness all night; are they too cold or are they bundled too much and sweating? i dislike frozen toilet seats (like a lot) and frown over no more morning runs with baby in the stroller. that would just be mean. my daily protein shake is slightly less enjoyable when it's cold. who wants to drink a frozen drink when in the winter? and strawberries are out of season. what a bummer!
but i actually really like cold weather. first of all, i love that there's something to watch on tv finally. the timing is so convenient. brilliant. and even though i'm annoyed to have to warm my coffee over and over, hot coffee is the best thing in the world on a cold morning. i enjoy hearty soups and cozy blankets. i love my fireplace and the smells of fall and winter. but most of all, i love clothing appropriate for cooler weather. jackets and hoodies and boots and hats and scarfs and mittens and a nice pair of jeans. sigh. if i were a rich girl ... i'd buy me one of these

and some of these
and some new boots. some cowgirl boots. new boot goofin' would be great.
and mom, here's the hat i'm no longer embarrassed to admit to wanting. i know, i know, you're shocked that i dig the bling because i dislike bling but this bling, i dig. i can't help it. even if it is $70, i think i would look stunning in a faith connexion hat. absolutely stunning. (shut up!)
and then there's the sweat suits. who doesn't love an awesome sweat suit? mom bought me one last year for christmas. i told her to get me a medium because i was determined to lose weight and she was all, are you sure? a medium? and i was all, yeah, a medium. so that's what i got.jake took a picture of gavin pulling on said sweat pants as he yells "MOMMA" while i was making brooklyn's birthday cupcakes the other day. i've lost some weight since christmas and now those mediums are looking a little big. not cute.
speaking of brooklyn's birthday, it was great. i think she had nice time. she was super excited to get all three barbie musketeers and won't believe me when i tell her the originals were boys and not barbie at all. the coconut cupcakes were "good but dry" so i'll have to try another recipe on another day. she looks cute in her new outfits (of course). here are a few photos from her big day.
that's all for today. i'm going to go put some warm socks on and dream of ways i can become a millionaire without working. maybe i can barter for a few things? except i'm not very good at anything. sigh.

And please Emily, if you do nothing else for me all year, please do not buy that hat. Please.
Baby girl's photo's are soooo cute!!
p.s. i'm not sure cupcakes can be dry and dense simultaneously.
