kindle

what do you think about the kindle?
i really enjoy reading, i love curling up with a good book and if you'll remember, it was my goal to read at least six books this year which seemed like a daunting goal at the time considering the mounting responsibilities that i'm faced with on a daily basis. but, no matter how daunting, i stuck with it and the goal has helped me re-discover my love for books ... i've read fourteen great books already this year and we're still not to the half way mark!
i've heard a lot about the kindle lately. it seems intriguing to me although i can't imagine curling up with it. there's just something special about a book. the cover art, turning pages, fun bookmarks. i don't always remember a book that i've read by the title or the author (i know, embarrassing) but show me the cover of the book and i'll probably be able to relay the story in great detail. why would you want to read a book on a computer screen anyway? i wouldn't even need my headlamp anymore and i know that would make the hub really sad.
maybe it would be cool to download a bunch of educational stuff that i wouldn't otherwise read and carry it around in my purse for those times i'm sitting and waiting. waiting in the school carpool line, waiting at the dr's office, waiting for something exciting to happen wishing i had something to do. who knows?
what do you think?

O my gosh, Emily! I was just thinking about the Kindle today- no joke! Drew and I had the same conversation. That's so weird! The only big plus we could come up with was the storage issue and ability to have thousands of books at your fingertips where ever you go. However, I just love paper. I love the feel and smell of it and the way the covers feel between my fingers.

So funny, you must have been reading my blog when I was reading yours! My Mother's DAy is going great! AND also, I made bought everything for the black bean salsa yesterday!

I can't believe you have already read 14 books! Lucky. I only have time to read at the gym , and an occasional afternoon read here and there. If I read at night I get narcalopsy. :)

I absolutely love reading "actual" books. I agree, the way they smell feel, the way the pages feel in your fingertips when you turn the page I should say, and I love knowing how much I have read. Especially in a big book.

I just finished another romance novel. I've realized that anything other than Mystery, heartache, misery, and romance just doesn't keep me long. I have 2 religious books I have treid to read in 5 months and I cant seem to finish them!

My mom has a kindle, well techincally 2, and absolutely loves it. She bought the original one and then just got the kindle 2 when that came out. I was reading in the paper the other day that they are coming out with a larger one for text books! That should be great when our son heads off to college after next school year!!

Em, the kindle seems pretty sweet. I have been "researching" what is so great about it. I want one just so i don't have to lug books around with me when I'm traveling or whatever. I hear the screen is designed to look just like a page of paper. PLUS you can turn it on so that it reads to you outloud. But I agree, It is sad to not have the actual physical book in hand. As far as reading though lately I've been pretty discouraged. Boring book after boring book. Let me know if you get a kindle and tell me how it goes.
