rendezvous ... updated

where it's okay to dress your children like polygamists ... i mean, pioneers. ***husband has made it quite clear that i'm very wrong to refer to the dress as "pioneer" attire as the mountain-man era and the pioneer era are not the same. my bad. however, i'm sticking to my choice of words because these kids look like pioneers and when i think of a mountain man, i assume a single, rugged man living alone in the mountains .. too busy hunting to have children. so here are my children dressed like pioneers.

baby was the only one who maintained some sense of modern style.

we spent a lovely weekend at the mountain man rendezvous in ft. bridger wyoming. this is a yearly tradition with husband's family, one that i personally have not been too excited about attending in the past but i'm a new woman now and didn't have to sleep in a tent or a tipi so i was more than happy to join the festivities. we had a great time just hanging out and being together. the kids love an opportunity to play play play for days straight with all the other kids.

they crawled around in their "forest" all weekend which was located perfectly behind our camp allowing the adults some quite time and the kids a little privacy to do all the things i wouldn't normally condone such as shooting eachother other with pretend guns and crawling around in week old cow-pies (yes, b's hair smelt lovely after four days without a shower).

we roasted marshmallows, had a yummy dutch oven dinner (thanks gil), survived freezing cold temperatures the first night, tornado winds the second night (i'm being a bit dramatic, but not really) and non-stop rain the last night. we were able to cram eight adults and three children into the tent trailer for a card game and a couple of meals while it rained a few times. lots of laughs. good times with good people.

the shopping is not really my kind of shopping but it's fun. the scones and homemade rootbeer are delish and how can i forget about the accomplished {indian} native american dancers? they were rad too especially if you consider bouncing around on one foot "accomplished" dancing (their costumes were cool anyway).

How exactly does one that is not a mountain man find out about the Mountain Man Rendezvous in Ft. Bridger Wyoming? I think it sounds like a great tradition.

P.S. Your baby has the chubbiest cheeks! So cute!
We had the pleasure of seeing Jake at the Mtn Man Rendezvous but you were back at "camp" with the kids when we stumbled across him. Sorry we missed you! We left right before the "tornado" hit and I don't think you were exaggerating much :)
