Grandma's Are Special ...
My kids are darn lucky to have two Grandma's who adore them and spoil them rotten. I guess there are some advantages to being the only grandkids despite how I sometimes feel sad that they don't have any cousins to grow up with!
Grandma Linda is a get-down-and-dirty kind of Grandma. She won't hesitate to roll around on the floor with them and after 28 (+) years of teaching Elementary Education, she comes up with some neat activities for the kids to enjoy. Recently, Grandma Linda took C and Sis to the Expo Center to see all of the floats for the Pioneer Day Parade. Then they hit the UTA Trax and went to the LDS Museum of Church History to see the "I am a Child of God" exhibit. When she returned them home, they were talking a mile a minute, trying to relay every last detail of their exciting day.
You probably won't catch my mom, "Grandma Julie" rolling around on the floor with the kids but she is just as special to them. She's the cuddly kind of Grandma who always has a soft blanket to curl up with while they read books or watch movies by the fire (sounds cheesy but it's the truth and these are some of my very own favorite childhood memories). They love to have "pizza parties" with Grandma Julie and she's the first person they'll turn to for sympathy when they're hurt. She took the kids on a special date this week to get their new back-packs for school.
I've spent countless hours the last month putting together a photo-book to give to my Grandmother on behalf of her family for her 90th birthday this September. 90 years, 6 children, 26 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. What an incredible legacy! Because the family is so large, I thought the task may become tedious, and it should have been considering how many times I've had to start over. But, I had requested everyone write a message to her to be printed in the book and as a result, I have been able to read these words from so many people who love her so dearly and it has been such an honor.
She is this amazing woman who has endured much in her lifetime and inspired so many. She is patient, kind and witty as can be. I have many wonderful memories with my Grandma, she has been a constant cheerleader in my life and I am so grateful she has been here to welcome with me each of my children into this world. My Grandma shares her birthday with Sissy and for this I am also grateful, what an honor for her to be born on that day! I hope that after Grandma sees this book I have made, she'll be forgiving for the enthusiam her family will show to her in honor of 90 wonderful years on this earth (she doesn't want any fuss you know)!
