enjoying

we spent our long weekend together simply enjoying.

friday we packed up and headed to our "beach." herriman city inserted a lake just up the hill from our house fit with a sandy (sort of) beach. we were lucky to be joined early by jon and nat, trav and linds as well as lisa and ashton. i think we were all looking forward to a day in the sun and although we enjoyed ourselves, it was a little too overcast for my taste so we decided to pack up early and head home for dinner. cayden was not thrilled with this decision. the kid cannot handle any modification to the original days plan without flipping out. i get it, i'm the same way really, i like to know what's happening and when and how and all that but i've learned to control my emotions when things don't go my way. unfortunately, he's only six years old so he figures insulting our new plan is the best way to prove his distaste for it. on the way home after we'd explained we were going to bbq at home, with the same people as we'd planned at the lake he informed us that bbq'ing is for "geeks." still somehow we talked him in to eating. when he realized jon and natalie were staying to hang out and then kevin and tenille arrived, the night became a lot more exciting.

saturday my close friend brought her family over for another dinner outdoors. the kids played for hours in the pool and with water balloons. i adore spending time with kim and agree with cayden that they should come over more often but i'd like chris to leave his illegal fireworks at home as i am a law abiding citizen.

sunday was the best. the kind of day i crave. i stand amazed at how much fun we can have when we've planned to do nothing at all. we spent the entire day sitting in the backyard sipping on margarita's, watching the kids swim and reading. all the cleaning was done. there was no laundry to be loaded and no reason to visit the store. we had candy for dinner and stayed up too late. i went to bed with a nice sun tan wishing the day would never end.

Wow! You guys have a really nice looking backyard. And if your house looks anything like the houses behind you...I'd say you guys are doing very well! Congrats!

alayna, you're kind. we have been lucky in the past but we're currently faced with rough times. we try to just focus on each moment and enjoy without worrying about the future!
