blue & gold banquet

cayden was invited to his first "blue and gold" banquet for his cub scout troop.  it was to be a family event.   it ended up being quite a fun evening.  i'm glad i took my camera along.

first, i was asked to bring some desserts so gavin and i made a trip to the kitchen store for the necessary items.

then he and brooklyn helped whip up some cupcakes by breathing as close to the batter as they could.  i shoo them away but, they don't listen.

i tried to stick with the blue and gold theme so i made vanilla cupcakes with chocolate and vanilla buttercream.  they were pretty dang good if i say so myself.

once we found our table, we were instructed to make a face clock out of a paper plate and various candy items.  the theme for the night was "minute to win it" so i guess the clocks went along with that.

dinner was delicious.  remind me to get the pulled pork recipe.

this is brooklyn listening to the directions for the game with her scouts honor sign in the air.  the girls were better listeners than the boys.

go figure.

..... be still my heart.

the first "minute to win it" round begins and jakes name is called right from the get go.  this is cayden's reaction when he hears his dads name and that is my neighbor/weekly running buddy maxine telling jake to "get up here."

moments later, cayden's name is called too.  they'll be competing against each other.  put a cookie on your forehead and get it into your mouth without using your hands.

jake was a little embarrassed but such a good sport.  gavin had to be right up in there with his daddy.

if the photos are big enough, you can see jake wins this challenge.  not too hard when you have a gigantic mouth.

then brooklyn gets called for the next round.  she has to shake the breath mints out of the cases just by moving her head back and forth.  poor girl.  she tried hard but i don't think she got one mint out.

then it's my turn.  i get to balance four donuts on my forehead.  i failed to listen to the complete instructions.  "four donuts for 3 seconds."  i got them up there, no problem.  then i let them drop so ... i lost.  shiz.  at least i didn't have to eat the donuts.

then the grand finale, jake and cayd get called up again! they have to shake their booty's to get the ping pong balls out of the kleenex boxes.

i'll tell you, my husband was shaking his butt like no other.  i felt bad for the rest of the women in that crowd who didn't get to go home with him!

cayden was working it too!

too bad no one won this one.  the balls weren't coming out of the boxes very well so i think they ended up just giving up.

scouts is fun.

That's a pretty cool gold and blue banquet. Now, ours was cool, too. But we didn't even have a theme. Geesh. Yeah, the cupcakes look awesome! You're awesome.

Goodnight.

that actually looks like a fun night. those things are usually torture!
about the robe:
I have been reading a fashion book that gives you great tips for everyday ofthe year. well, one of hte tips was to pick out a robe that makes you feel sexy, and like you are at a spa being pampered. this is supposed to set the tone for your whole day. Whe ni read this i thought- Maybe wearing the robe that my grandma in a resthome didn't want is hurting my sensuality.(it is true. my uncle bought it for her and she refuzedto wear it- so i found it at my mom's house later and decided the price was right) BUT it is so stinkin comfy. I need to part with it before it turns into a sort of cmfort blankie. i'll pass it downto you.

Please teach me the tricks of icing cupcakes! Everytime I try to do what you did, it ends up looking like a disaster and/or pile of poo on my cupcake. Not appetizing...
