valentine's day

a quick post to recap a fun day/weekend.

my parents took the kids on saturday so jake and i could go out.  we went clothes shopping.  i spent all my money i had earned from my online clothing sale.  thanks again to all who supported the "clothes for emily" cause.  we literally shopped until we dropped. i can run 10 miles every saturday but i can't shop for hours on end.  my feet were killing me!

the kids had a sleepover and while there, they worked on the valentines for their classmates and grandpa helped them make their v-day boxes.  cayden actually needed one.  brooklyn's was just for funsies (as she would say).

my dad won't admit it but, he loves this sort of thing.  so much so that after we dropped the kids off with a bag full of newly purchased craft supplies, he made his own trip to the craft store to get what he needed.  memories.  that's what you've made dad.  memories.

cayden's was entered into the class contest.  i felt confident he would win.  i mean, seriously, check out that cool robot!  when he got in the car after school yesterday he was in good spirits but he didn't win.  i was shocked. turns out a basketball court won for "most mechanical" even though there is nothing mechanical about a basketball court and a wolf won for "most modern."  second graders don't know anything.  who left the voting up to them anyway?  i saw that "basketball court."

anyway, i'm over it even though it took me a lot longer than it took cayden.  he didn't seem phased.

back on topic.

after tumbling and wrestling we had our special romantic dinner.
i'm happy it's an occasion they look forward to.
it was really fun this year.  no spilling.  no blowing the candles out. decent manners.
they took it seriously.
i made spaghetti with fresh tomato sauce and these soft garlic knots.  so good. not lying.
we left them mini bundlets on the front porch for their dessert.

it was a lovely evening.
me thinks.

Those are the coolest Valentine boxes ever! And believe me, I've seen a lot of them. Your dad did a fabulous job helping the kids out. What a great grandpa!
