second grader

it's crazy, right?  he's in second grade now with last week being his first week in mrs. taylor's class.  the boy is super excited about his teacher and thrilled to be meeting new friends and seeing old friends.

instead of "back to school night" they had a first day of school open house where i was able to go with him for the first bit of school and meet his teacher, see his classroom, watch him listen intently about how to move above green card status to orange, even purple!  how cool is this teacher?!  green cards used to be top notch.  now, he can be even more awesome than before and get special prizes for earning orange cards or purple cards.  i like mrs. taylor already.

mrs. taylor said "second grade is usually an emotional year."  something about the kids trying to find their way socially and fit in.  i thought great.  he's already a lot of emotion in one little body but, i can handle it.  bring it on second grade.

see those two cute girls he's squeezing between on the front row?  they were the first thing i noticed when he sat in his seat.  i immediately made a mental note to make sure he wears deodorant to school every day.  don't judge me.  i realize he's only seven but, i vividly remember the seven year old boys in my second grade class and how they smelt after recess.  i'm looking out for those two cute girls.  santa brought him some "axe" body spray for christmas so he's been using it and, i think he thinks it's pretty cool.  win, win, win.

after week one, cayd had earned three orange cards.  he was really brown nosing and i was really proud. we celebrated the second orange card with ice cream from baskin robbins and next week he gets a play date with a school friend.  seems like a given but, cayden has to earn these kind of things.  encouraging good behavior with a reward really works for him and helps me to maintain the small amount of sanity i still have.

brooklyn starts kindergarten on tuesday and i think he's really excited to share his school with her.  he was super cute when she went to meet her teacher last week.  the same teacher he had in kindergarten.  he walked her around the classroom like a true know-it-all and it made me smile watching them make their way.  cute kids.

i'm so proud of my boy.  he works hard and he's growing up fast.

Why oh why are your kids in school already? Is Utah's school system on a track or something? I don't know that I realized that Brooklyn and Ivy are the same age. Ivers will start Kindergarten this year too! So, when are we hangin'? Because we must! And I wouldn't mind some of those LUSCIOUS looking baked treats when we hang:)

Loves.
