Some Favorite Things ...

The kids would definitely say that their favorite part of today (so far, it's only 2:00) was breakfast at McDonalds while Big-O put some nice new expensive tires on my people mover. However, I would have to disagree wholeheartedly (imagine that) because I found these two note cards while trying to find a special something for the Hub's Grandma to open at her 90th birthday celebration this weekend.... (oh, I found her something just as lovely) ...

These note cards quickly became the highlight of my day but then I decided to work on a little project the"planning committee" has going for my dear Grandmother's 90th birthday celebration in September and I'd like to share why the day got even better ....

The picture below is of my brother and I in Grandma's backyard. I would imagine he's probably around four years old which makes me around two. I've seen the picture before but it's more special to me now then ever. The difference now is I feel such a closeness to my mom imagining how she must have been then. The way she felt and the things she was experiencing I imagine to be very much like my own reality now and this makes me smile. Add to that the darling dress that I'm wearing and the gratefulness I feel for my bro that he grew into his brain......

And then there's this picture. Besides her obvious beauty, I can't help but dig the top she's wearing and I love to imagine that my grandmother often had fresh cut roses from her garden on that table.......

How great is it to remember my parents this way? I can only guess how patient of a golf partner he must have been. The best part of the picture you will not notice until I point it out. First of all, I'm pretty sure they polished their shoes with white shoe polish the night before and you have to applaud my mom for the many hours she's spent standing in front of the ironing board over her lifetime! Check out those pleats ... even his drawstring shorts were ironed and I'd bet that red tee-shirt with the cat drinking (a beer) on the beach was too! I'm grateful she taught me well in regard to maintaining a household but I thank my lucky stars for being able to sleep comfortably on a pillow case that wasn't ironed before it covered the pillow....

Another example of her expert ironing abilities...

And last but not least, they've always been way cooler then me ....

Love the notecards! That picture of you and Josh brought back such memories. That is about how you looked when we moved away, so when I haven't seen you guys for a long time those are the images that surface. So sweet! I hope all of you will be at the runion this year. I LOVE it when I get those rare moments to reconnect with you.
