beauty full sissy
sissy and i went on a date over the weekend.
i wanted to do something special with her.
just the two of us.
sometimes i worry that she'll feel like she's getting lost in the shuffle.
she flies under the radar. she's obedient and good. never giving us any reason to dwell over her or with her. she's not the oldest, being celebrated for all of the "firsts" or the youngest being doted over because, well, he's the baby. she's just there, in the middle, being good and working hard regardless of the attention she gets (or doesn't).
she's quite amazing and i want her to know this. she is unique and special. smart and kind. the hardest working six year old i've ever had the pleasure of knowing. she's polite and considerate. she's grateful and happy.
recently i'd purchased some little ceramics at the craft store for the kids to paint. honestly, i thought it would be something cayden would really enjoy because he loves art so much and i hoped it would keep him away from the video games for a minute so i was a little surprised when he got bored real quick and she was taking the time to give her full attention to her ceramic kitty.
i recalled having seen the color me mine studio in draper and so i promised her that soon, we would go there together. just the two of us.
so that's what we did.
first, we stopped at the cutest little sandwich shop in draper called food for thought. it couldn't have been more perfect with textured pink walls and a floral drapery.
we shared a sandwich and she felt quite sophisticated ordering a "sparkling lemonito" as her beverage of choice.
at the paint shop she worked on a bunny while i painted a cappuccino mug. it took us a couple of hours. we weren't in any hurry. our pieces are currently awaiting their fate in the shops kiln where they will come out glossy and beautiful.
she asked to take my photo.
we went to justice (which i loath and she loves). she picked out a new "tankini" and a "shrug." she has been asking for a shrug lately. i had no idea what she was talking about and questioned how she ended up with me as her mom. she was happy to show me what a shrug is. now i consider myself informed.
after our retail therapy we stopped over at the cupcake shop where sissy ordered a "fairyfetti" and i enjoyed a coconut cupcake.
my girl is getting big. she asked me if i would buy her a bra. no lie. sigh.
next year she'll participate in the chinese immersion program offered through the district at her elementary school. the idea is that she'll learn through this program until she finishes her ninth grade year at which time, she'll be fluent in mandarin. we are very excited that she made the cut. as a government funded program, there is no application process other than throwing the kids names in a hat and then waiting to hear who is chosen during the lottery. we were just informed last week that her name was drawn. now i need to start studying mandarin and saving my pennies for a future trip to china.
in other news, she's also excited to have a visit from the tooth fairy tonight. she's been waiting and waiting for her wiggly teeth to fall out but they wouldn't budge. i noticed her permanent teeth had already broken through her gums behind the baby teeth so dr. nate had to pull her teeth out today. talk about an expensive tooth fairy.

Mykelle also had her first loose tooth( That still hasn't fallen out, and her permanent teeth are coming in as well) I'm calling the dentist if they don't come out soon!

We do those kid dates once in awhile, too.
They love them.
By the way, did you chop your locks? In the pic she took of you it looks short and choppy...and cute that way!
